Like all cryptocurrencies, the majors are digital assets that secure and verify transactions using computer science and complex mathematics, known as cryptography. Unlike traditional (‘fiat’) currencies, they are not currently issued or backed by a central authority such as a government. Bitcoin’s (BTC) price hit another all-time high at $69,000, while Ether (ETH) continued its long slog toward $5,000 after reaching a new high at $4,868 earlier on Wednesday.
