Bitcoin’s price has taken a wild ride so far in 2021, and in November set another new all-time high price when it went over $68,000. This latest record high follows previous high points over $60,000 in April and October, as well as a summer drop to less than $30,000 in July. This volatility is a big part of why experts recommend keeping your crypto investments to less than 5% of your portfolio to begin with.
United States investors still cannot use the original Binance today, but Binance.US offers over 50 cryptocurrencies for investors to choose from. The biggest draw of Binance.US is its low fees compared to some other exchanges. Like all cryptocurrencies, the majors are digital assets that secure and verify transactions using computer science and complex mathematics, known as cryptography. Unlike traditional (‘fiat’) currencies, they are not currently issued or backed by a central authority such as a government. Instead, they run across a network of computers and are underpinned by blockchain technology – a permanent record of transactions that cannot be altered without the consensus of the network.
Here’s our guide to crypto, and why so many people are talking about it these days.
Virtual currencies. Like fiat currency, virtual currencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ether are intended as a medium of exchange that enables two parties to transact business. But there are important differences: No physical coins or bills. Virtual currencies exist only in computer code. Except for visual representation of Bitcoin and altcoins in advertising and displays, and coin-like tokens that may be produced for marketing purposes, there are no actual coins or bills. Not legal tender. Virtual currencies are not legal tender and are not issued or backed by a government. However, many virtual currencies, which are called convertible virtual currencies, can be redeemed for fiat currency on a number of exchanges. No regulation. Virtual currencies are not regulated by any government agency or authority. However, regulation is being considered, especially where virtual currencies function as securities when they’re used to raise capital and when traded on exchanges.
This question does not have a plain vanilla answer in ‘yes’ or ‘no’, as the government and the central bank still look unsure as to how to deal with this new-age phenomenon. In 2018, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) came out strongly and kind of banned these tokens in India. Then in 2020, the Supreme Court of India reversed the RBI ban. That move was welcomed by the crypto exchanges and investors throughout the country. After this, Indian banks have tried to curtail transactions with crypto-exchanges as, in their view, they are governed by RBI. But later, RBI mentioned that banks cannot quote its 2018 ban to customers as it was overruled by the Supreme Court, paving the way for crypto trading to continue in India.
Bitcoin (BTC) is the preeminent cryptocurrency and the first to be used widely. However, hundreds of cryptocurrencies exist, and more spring into being every month.
To begin trading in this volatile market it is necessary to be well aware of the market prices of cryptocurrencies. The cryptocurrency investor has to differentiate between Bitcoin and the wide variety of existing Altcoins and should be well informed about their graphs and quotes, as well as the latest news related to these digital currencies.
The world of cryptocurrencies can be a tricky field to navigate for the uninitiated.

Binance, the original platform, despite its many outages in recent months, stands out from its U.S. counterpart. The range of cryptocurrencies, features, and ease of use far out does Binance.US. Many hope that the number of faults and outages will reduce going forward.
The value of cryptocurrency is also driven by scarcity. This alludes to the cryptocurrency’s finite mechanism. The Bitcoin protocol sets the maximum amount of BTC that can be mined at 21 million. Therefore, as more people enter the crypto space, Bitcoin’s scarcity will inevitably increase, causing its price to increase. Some coins also use the burning mechanism to increase their value by destroying a portion of the supply.

— “What it has nurtured, though, are Skarlatos’ political ambitions, providing $65,000, records show, to his 2022 bid for a rematch with longtime Democratic Rep. Peter DeFazio,” who is one of a number of members being targeted by the GOP for the midterms. Skarlatos, who became famous after he helped disrupt an attack on a train bound for Paris by an armed Islamic State sympathizer, started his nonprofit a month after losing to DeFazio. He named it “15:17 Trust — a reference to the train attack. It was registered in Virginia, with his campaign treasurer also serving as the group’s treasurer, records show.”

The longer term relationship varies over time. After exhibiting strong positive correlation in 2013 (where prices rose), and 2014 (where prices fell for a sustained interval), the longer term relationship between Bitcoin and Litecoin starts to break down around the middle of 2015. It can be seen in the accompanying price plot that at this point the Bitcoin price starts to gradually recover, whereas the Litecoin price does not.
