If this type of extreme drop bothers you, you may have too much riding on your crypto investments. You should only invest what you’re OK losing. But even if the drop is making you rethink your crypto allocations, the same advice still stands — don’t act rashly or upend your strategy too quickly. Reconsider what you might be more comfortable with going forward, such as allocating less to crypto in the future or diversifying through crypto-related stocks and blockchain funds rather than directly buying crypto (though you should still expect volatility when cryptocurrency markets fluctuate).
When the market adjusts, the price shoots up. Large holders of that crypto can then cash in on the gains by dumping their coins, bringing the price down. Although exchanges know about these methods, stopping them isn’t all that simple, as the perpetrators know how to stay under the radar.

You might recall that back in the very early days of Covid-19 (or just “coronavirus” as it was then known), some crypto nutters enthusiasts started getting excited about the idea that the virus would be good for bitcoin because “paper money” “might be the source of #CORONAVIRUS #SARS2 infection”. The BraveNewCoin aggregated index is chosen as the source of data for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Monero. The BraveNewCoin aggregated index is not used for Litecoin as their index for Litecoin only starts in April 2014 and misses earlier price action. Instead, Litecoin data is retrieved from the BTC-E time series. It should be noted BTC-E has recently (25th July 2017) been shut down by US authorities, however this is after the data interval examined. It has been observed that price differences do exist between cryptocurrency exchanges [19], and it is expected the BTC-E price over time will be different to other exchanges, however with the possibility of exchange arbitrage, prices on different exchanges are reasonably similar.

This year we saw a similar fight break out–this time over bitcoin cash. This coin, mind you, is not bitcoin, though it is built on the same architecture. It was created by a group of miners who disagreed with some of the fundamentals of the initial bitcoin system, and so they forked a new blockchain and went their own way. In terms of market capitalization, bitcoin cash has always been one of the top cryptocurrencies–in the ranks of Ethereum and XRP.

Any investment you make should be appropriately weighted against the rest of your portfolio as well as the overall market. Just as you wouldn’t invest all your money in one company, it’s unwise to put every dollar you have into crypto.
