Mistakes like this happen throughout finance when, for instance, traders mess up details of their intended trades, entering the wrong price or order size. An erroneously large trade, as one example, can overwhelm an exchange's order book, leading to a quick and massive decline. The entire U.S. stock market famously flash crashed back in May 2010, though equities have mostly avoided trouble since that era.
Meanwhile, even the most enthusiastic bitcoin evangelists are realizing that a retooling is in order. Michael J. Casey, a senior adviser for blockchain research at MIT’s Digital Currency Initiative, recently wrote about how the crypto-winter has arrived, but it may lead to better things down the line:

Stellar Lumens presents a noble case for itself. The blockchain network wants to allow users to send money anywhere. This is very similar to the goal of XRP or ripple. Ripple is six times larger than Stellar and easier to use.
Satoshi Nakamoto. A pseudonym for an individual or group that introduced Bitcoin in late 2008 in a white paper published via a mailing list for cryptography. To facilitate transactions, bitcoins can be divided into miniscule units. For example, there are units as tiny as a millionth of bitcoin, or even a hundred-millionth of a bitcoin, which is called a satoshi.
