I present a model of cryptocurrency price formation that endogenizes both the financial market for coins and the fee-based market for blockchain space. A cryptocurrency has two distinctive features: a price determined by the extent of its usage as money, and a blockchain structure that restricts settlement capacity. Limited settlement space creates competition between users of the currency, so speculative activity can crowd out monetary usage. This crowding-out undermines the ability of a cryptocurrency to act as a medium of payment, lowering its value. Higher speculative demand can reduce prices, contrary to standard economic models. Crowding-out also raises the riskiness of investing in cryptocurrency, explaining high observed price volatility. 05 November 2021 Refinancing cross-subsidies in the mortgage... The cryptocurrency market woke up to a shock in early trading on Thursday morning. On the Binance US cryptocurrency exchange, the value of Bitcoin (BTC) plummeted nearly 87 percent in value, settling around $8,200. The issue that caused the value spike was reportedly corrected swiftly and the Bitcoin value returned to its normal levels within a couple of minutes.
Overall, it appears from these results that cryptocurrencies may experience short term intervals of co-movement, caused by sector wide news or cross market contagion, though correlation is likely to change dependent on the nature of the causal event and market environment. In the medium and longer term Bitcoin and Litecoin are strongly related; it is believed this is due to their similarity.

Yet some crypto watchers have raised red flags over SafeMoon’s unusual structure. It charges a 10 per cent fee to buy tokens and another 10 per cent to sell — almost unheard of in the digital currency world. Half of these fees are paid to owners as an incentive to keep holding and the other half goes into a liquidity pool controlled by the developers. SafeMoon calls itself a DeFi token, or one that uses decentralized finance to govern functions through software, but it has a chief executive officer and chief operating officer. Critics also worry about the discretionary nature of the “manual” coin burns used to adjust its circulation. After 19,000% early gain, crypto SafeMoon’s rules to tamp down selling raise red flags Back to video
The coin's tokenomics show that the team is building a platform that rewards investors handsomely. First, the token is a hyper-deflationary payment network token, which rewards investors for holding tokens in BNB. For every transaction, 12% is charged, only 3% of the collected tax goes to marketing. The 4% is awarded to the token holders in BNB. It is this active income from the rewards, which is paid every 60 minutes, that is attracting most Safemoon members and thousands of other investors.
