Yet tales of meme-coin holders becoming millionaires have attracted new waves of retail investors to crypto — along with a growing number of nefarious players. In May, the Federal Trade Commission tallied a record number of crypto investment scams, with Americans’ losses totalling around US$80 million since October.
July saw the Met seize a cryptocurrency operation valued at £180million in the UK’s largest cryptocurrency seizure to date.

Additionally, because there is no physical product or centralized organizing body, it is hard to point to anything and say “see, that good thing happened, crypto values will increase now”. So how does cryptocurrency gain value?

ANNALS OF CAMPAIGN FINANCE: “Alek Skarlatos, a hero soldier-turned-Republican congressional candidate, started a nonprofit shortly after his 2020 defeat in a western Oregon race, pledging to advocate for veterans ‘left high and dry’ by the country ‘they put their lives on the line for.’” But, The Associated Press’ Brian Slodysko reports, “the group, which Skarlatos seeded with $93,000 in leftover campaign funds, has done little since then to advance that cause.”
Another institutional hit for bitcoin–which probably had the most sustained effect–was the SEC’s refusal to approve a bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). This would be a path for more mainstream people in finance to dabble with blockchain; it would allow investors to dip their toes in bitcoin without owning the actual asset. Not only that, but it would make bitcoin available on the most prominent financial markets. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), however, has yet to allow such a fund to exist–mostly because it is unable to monitor crypto-transactions in order to avoid market manipulation.
However, cryptocurrency is unique as it is typically decentralised so there is no control from government interference. Cryptocurrency uses something called a blockchain.
A look at the recent charts shows that Safemoon has been on a downward trend since the start of November. Cryptocurrency transactions are recorded on a decentralized ledger. This ledger is called a blockchain. Every time crypto is bought or sold, the transaction is added to the blockchain — a public database of the transactions, which is available to other crypto holders. Anyone can join and participate in the blockchain, but data on individual transactions — and the people involved with them — are secured using cryptography (the basis for the term cryptocurrency). For each transaction added to the blockchain, there’s a digital validation process to verify it and prevent fraud.
