Usually, when you buy stocks or cryptocurrency, the price chart is a valuable tool in your analysis. However, the combination of Safemoon’s short price history and low liquidity means that the price chart doesn’t tell us as much as it would with other cryptos. The huge spikes in April and May have been followed by a sustained decline, which has led the price to where it is right now.
But classifying crypto as an investment is complicated, too. It doesn’t quite fit the mold of a traditional stock or bond, and while cryptocurrencies do share characteristics of commodities like gold — they can be bought and sold for cash and as derivatives based on expected future value — they have no inherent physical value or use.

Such volatility in crypto markets is nothing new. With no formal structure and countless competing exchanges, trading in the digital currency is still akin to settling out in the old American West. Earlier this month, decentralized finance platform Synthetify was forced to halt all trading due to a bug in the platform that provides pricing data. Fig 8(A) shows many significant positive correlations between Bitcoin and Litecoin. This is an expected relationship given Litecoin is technically very similar to Bitcoin (Litecoin is essentially Bitcoin with faster block confirmations). Overall, there is no clear leader in the relationship. However during the interval of the late 2013 price bubble (where Bitcoin and Litecoin reached around $1000 and $40 respectively) it can be seen that Bitcoin is leading Litecoin (slightly downward facing arrows across all periods).
