Regulation across borders has to keep up with the rapidly advancing pace of cryptocurrency development. Due to the decentralized nature of cryptocurrencies, this is a complex matter, with international disagreement ranging from the legitimacy of currency status, or even whether they should be made illegal.
Some teams have no issue with leveraging the power of social media by paying influencers to promote their coins. With a few heavy hitters on your side, you can spread rumours nearly instantly. If people are talking about your project, you win.

I present a model of cryptocurrency price formation that endogenizes both the financial market for coins and the fee-based market for blockchain space. A cryptocurrency has two distinctive features: a price determined by the extent of its usage as money, and a blockchain structure that restricts settlement capacity. Limited settlement space creates competition between users of the currency, so speculative activity can crowd out monetary usage. This crowding-out undermines the ability of a cryptocurrency to act as a medium of payment, lowering its value. Higher speculative demand can reduce prices, contrary to standard economic models. Crowding-out also raises the riskiness of investing in cryptocurrency, explaining high observed price volatility. 05 November 2021 Refinancing cross-subsidies in the mortgage... — Binance.US also hired a former House Financial Services aide and a former House chief of staff from Ice Miller Strategies to lobby on its behalf, according to disclosures filed last week. Though the company has not previously hired lobbyists in Washington, last August it joined the Blockchain Association, an industry lobbying group that was a vocal player in negotiations over cryptocurrency tax provisions in the bipartisan infrastructure bill and that has spent nearly $300,000 on lobbying in the first half of 2021.

Some experts have already expressed concern that the inclusion of the Binance Coin on the platform may prove controversial in the United States. While Binance.US is described as a subsidiary, its business model might draw attention from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission based on the fact that BNB token acts as both a security and a utility token. As such, it could pass the so-called Howey test for being security, thus potentially becoming a snag on the Binance’s path to establishing itself in the US.

“One of our institutional traders indicated to us that they had a bug in their trading algorithm, which appears to have caused the sell-off,” Binance.US said in the statement. “We are continuing to look into the event, but understand from the trader that they have now fixed their bug and that the issue appears to have been resolved.”
