Safemoon members are now joining competing crypto coins, like Bitrise, in thousands, and this could continue if Safemoon team does not address the fundamental issues. However, Safemoon remains as one of the strong crypto coins, but the dominance might be short-lived.
I present a model of cryptocurrency price formation that endogenizes both the financial market for coins and the fee-based market for blockchain space. A cryptocurrency has two distinctive features: a price determined by the extent of its usage as money, and a blockchain structure that restricts settlement capacity. Limited settlement space creates competition between users of the currency, so speculative activity can crowd out monetary usage. This crowding-out undermines the ability of a cryptocurrency to act as a medium of payment, lowering its value. Higher speculative demand can reduce prices, contrary to standard economic models. Binance has recently attracted regulator attention around the world. While Binance.US is a separate legal entity from the main Binance platform, it is 90% owned by Changpeng Zhao, who started and controls Binance.com, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. The NYT said it was regulatory attention in the U.S. over money laundering and tax issues combined with the common ownership that concerned potential investors.
