The former head of the Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC), Brian Brooks, resigned as CEO of Binance.US last week, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing a post from him on the social media platform Twitter. Brooks had only recently joined the company in the role on May 1.
Wallets used by cryptocurrency exchanges are somewhat vulnerable to hacking. For instance, Japan-based Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox shut down and declared bankruptcy a few years back after hackers systematically relieved it of more than $450 million in Bitcoin exchanged over its servers.
According to Karony, other future plans include a yet-to-be-unveiled initiative that’s “fuel to the freedom of the un-banked.” And while SafeMoon was created on the Binance Smart Chain blockchain, the company said that it’s in the process of launching its own exchange platform this summer to establish a liquidity pool.
Although the hype around this coin isn’t as much as it was at some point, it is still a strong digital coin that’s attracting several investors. While cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin have limited coin supply, Dogecoin doesn’t have limits. As a result, something that started is now a cryptocurrency with several supporters and investors, including celebrities and billionaires, notably Elon Musk.
Numerous others have also made their mark on the industry, some of whom Cointelegraph lists in its top 100 people in crypto and blockchain for 2021.
Under Brooks’ leadership, the OCC began allowing banks to provide cryptocurrency custody services and store cryptographic keys in July 2020. And this January, the OCC first permitted banks to use stablecoins for payments.
So far, the main thing that has driven Safemoon has been the hype generated by celebrity backing. Celebrities such as Jake Paul, Afrojack, and Keemstar have also promoted the coin this year, leading to significant price increases.

Spot trading means you’re not technically “buying” the cryptocurrency, but instead trading your USD for it through either a market or a limit order. A market order means you agree to trade for the currency at the current market price. “I’ve been through the 2017 cycle, too,” Yang says, referencing the ‘crypto crash’ of 2017 that saw many major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, lose major value. “I know that these things are super volatile, like some days they can go down 80%.”
