Recently, such platforms have come under increased scrutiny by lawmakers and regulators. Binance in particular is reportedly under review by regulators in the U.S., Britain, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong and elsewhere.
Changpeng Zhao increased crypto-asset availability as one of the founders of Binance, which has grown into one of the largest crypto exchanges. Sam Bankman-Fried, co-creator of the FTX digital asset trading platform, serves as another important individual in the industry that impacts trading, decentralized finance (DeFi) and other aspects of the crypto space.
But the hacks didn’t stop. In 2016, the DAO–a blockchain organization that was based on Ethereum–lost what was worth $50 million at the time, due to a technical error someone seized upon. This, once again, sent shockwaves through the community–but also had the unfortunate impact of normalizing these types of hacks for some people.
Cryptocurrency markets are decentralised, which means they are not issued or backed by a central authority such as a government. Instead, they run across a network of computers. However, cryptocurrencies can be bought and sold via exchanges and stored in ‘wallets’ .
