“Regulation is probably one of the biggest overhangs in the crypto industry globally,” says Jeffrey Wang, head of the Americas at Amber Group, a Canada-based crypto finance firm. “We would very much welcome clear regulation.”

Despite its size and name recognition, Binance has had issues with regulators. In 2017, Binance left China and re-located to Japan and Taiwan before eventually moving to Malta. The result of this saw Bitcoin’s highest prices sliced in half in June, with the coin struggling to break out of the low to mid $30k price range until it received a welcome boost from Tesla founder Elon Musk in his appearance at major Bitcoin conference in July.
The overall market cap of cryptocurrencies hit $3.3 trillion on Monday, according to CoinGecko pricing.
