Safemoon has a few unique features that have attracted both praise and criticism. For example, the Safemoon smart contract charges a 10% exit fee for holders who choose to sell. Half of this fee is ‘burned’, while the other is redistributed to remaining token holders, theoretically increasing the value of their holdings over time.

(Bloomberg) -- To investors hunting for the next Dogecoin, the more than 19,000% price gain that cryptocurrency SafeMoon posted in its early weeks was like catnip. Though the price of the four-month-old token has dropped since then, more than 2.4 million investors have bought it, according to its developers.
Cryptocurrency. A digital currency secured through cryptography, or codes that can't be read without a key.
The SafeMoon price climbed 46,533% from the launch to peak at $0.00001399 on April 20th before falling back down to its original value of $00000361 by May 2nd, when it rebounded once again.
Bitcoin’s latest big jump also isn’t anything new. “While in the long-term Bitcoin’s price has generally gone up, we experience a lot of volatility along the way,” says Kiana Danial, founder of Invest Diva.
Bitcoin hit a high of more than $60,000 in April, and the ups and downs since then highlight the cryptocurrency’s volatility in a time when more and more people are interested in getting in on the action. Public key. A cryptographic code that allows a person to receive cryptocurrencies into his or her account. The public key is derived from the private key. In the Bitcoin system, transactions are done using a "pair" of a private and public key.
Musk has been a long-time advocate of cryptocurrencies and the Tesla decision was felt across the market, with other digital tokens going down in price.
Jed McCaleb helped spread Bitcoin’s prominence in the industry’s early days as a result of starting Mt. Gox, a place that frequently hosted Bitcoin trading — despite its original function as a hub for fans of a game called Magic: The Gathering. However, it was rendered infamous when the platform fell apart in 2014.
Gensler recently went so far as to say investors are “likely to get hurt” if stricter regulation is not introduced. Plus, the IRS has an obvious interest in making sure investors know how to report virtual currency when they file their taxes.
Decentralized platforms that require a coin can be enabled via blockchains. The blockchain is the distributed ledger technology that allows a network to maintain consensus. The network can track transactions and transfer value and information due to distributed consensus.
But the hacks didn’t stop. In 2016, the DAO–a blockchain organization that was based on Ethereum–lost what was worth $50 million at the time, due to a technical error someone seized upon. This, once again, sent shockwaves through the community–but also had the unfortunate impact of normalizing these types of hacks for some people.
You can't ever determine how long or how far up a speculative investment can go, and you tend to be very shocked at how much it falls
