FIRST IN PI — VIATRIS’ JASO JUMPS TO BROWNSTEIN: Joe Jaso is joining Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s government relations team as a policy director working on state and federal issues. He joins the firm from Viatris, the company formed through the merger of Pfizer’s Upjohn and Mylan, where he was head of U.S. state government affairs. He was Mylan’s head of state government affairs prior to the merger. He was also vice president of federal affairs at McGuireWoods Consulting and a vice president at Dutko Worldwide.
In the case of cryptocurrencies, academia has barely scratched the surface with respect to identifying the determinants of their prices. For example, studies by Cheah and Fry (2015) and Corbet et al. (2018) claim that Bitcoin has no intrinsic value and that its price has persistently exhibited ‘bubble-like’ behaviour. Makarov and Schoar (2018) find that the prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple differ across exchanges for weeks. Several other regulators, including from Hong Kong, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Thailand, followed with various warnings, with the Netherlands the latest to do so this week. Hong Kong initially raised the alarm over crypto derivatives related to listed stocks which Binance stopped offering last month.
