Safemoon has a few unique features that have attracted both praise and criticism. For example, the Safemoon smart contract charges a 10% exit fee for holders who choose to sell. Half of this fee is ‘burned’, while the other is redistributed to remaining token holders, theoretically increasing the value of their holdings over time.
However, while there are some organisations that accept it as currency, others shy away due to Bitcoin’s dramatic price swings. Driven largely by speculation, the price per Bitcoin rose sharply from $1,151 in January 2017, to an all-time high of $19,783 in December the same year.* It then dropped to below $7,000 by February 2018 and rallied again to around $11,000 over a matter of days, before plunging once more to trade below $4,000. Subsequently, one of the key characteristics of Bitcoin that traders should understand is its potential for extreme volatility.

Blockchains typically function via proof-of-work (PoW) or proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithms. PoW operates based on miners who often designate specific computing machines for the process.

Despite the massive swing in value on the Binance US exchange, Bitcoin’s value on other exchanges remained stable. There has been speculation on the exact cause of the spike, though Binance offered a short statement to Bloomberg explaining that one of its institutional traders was responsible.

It might be time to remind the millennials that all that glitters is not gold. At least some cryptocurrencies — the new-age investment asset class — are on the verge of extinction. After all, not all tokens are created equal.

Cryptocurrency transactions are recorded on a decentralized ledger. This ledger is called a blockchain. Every time crypto is bought or sold, the transaction is added to the blockchain — a public database of the transactions, which is available to other crypto holders. Anyone can join and participate in the blockchain, but data on individual transactions — and the people involved with them — are secured using cryptography (the basis for the term cryptocurrency). For each transaction added to the blockchain, there’s a digital validation process to verify it and prevent fraud.
The former US banking regulator and crypto enthusiast is resigning at a time when regulators in Hong Kong, Britain, Germany, Japan, Italy and Thailand have cracked down on Binance due to worries over investor protection. More importantly, we find that the ACP and ANET factors can price cryptocurrency returns. In particular, all of our five cryptocurrencies have positive and significant exposures to the fundamental factors. The explanatory power of ACP and ANET is over and above any effects related to the Bitcoin and momentum factors. This finding is non-trivial given that the five cryptocurrencies in our sample have consistently accounted for between 80% to 95% of the total cryptocurrency market capitalisation. Furthermore, we extend our factor analysis to an out-of-sample set of 33 cryptocurrencies obtained from the Bittrex exchange. We find that the aggregate computing power and network factors also price cryptocurrencies in this large out-of-sample data set.
Binance currently lists 150 coins and tokens. Binance.US has said it is considering 30 assets to list initially.
