Time will tell whether this is the case, but right now, the Safemoon price is trading pretty close to where it was in April 2021, right before the massive price increase. Since the all-time high of $0.00001094 back in May, the Safemoon price live dropped over 87%. Furthermore, the trading volume is extremely low, with CoinGecko reporting that just over $3.5 million worth of Safemoon was traded in the last 24 hours.
In the case of cryptocurrencies, academia has barely scratched the surface with respect to identifying the determinants of their prices. For example, studies by Cheah and Fry (2015) and Corbet et al. (2018) claim that Bitcoin has no intrinsic value and that its price has persistently exhibited ‘bubble-like’ behaviour. Makarov and Schoar (2018) find that the prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple differ across exchanges for weeks. Outside of academia, the President of the United States recently tweeted that cryptocurrencies are based on “thin air”.1

As noted elsewhere by a prominent author in the area [25], there is not a widely accepted or consistent definition of the term “bubble”. The GDASF test used here assumes a bubble is any time series interval which deviates from a random walk to become explosive.
Combining the BSADF with the GSADF test allows the r2 value to vary while still using a backward expanding window. r2 starts at the smallest possible window size, and moves one point at a time towards the end of the time series.
